Crestone Rainbow: by Rick King
Welcome to the Turnip Patch.
The Turnip Patch Mission
The aim of this website is to apply the immense and unprecedented resources of the internet toward serving the Crestone, San Luis Valley, and Salida region in the ongoing quest to create a friendly, thriving, sustainable community that is a joy to live in.
Introduction
Check out the May issue, p. 22, for a fine article about the Turnip Patch by our own Gussie Fauntleroy.
The Turnip Patch Mission
This project is for envisioning, developing, launching, and maintaining a web-assisted Crestone area networking project to enhance and facilitate communication, organization, exchanges of goods and services, and whatever else we come up with.
The Turnip Patch organizers aim to empower the diverse people and organizations of the San Luis Valley region, including Salida, with a place to meet and be heard with tools supporting collaboration and trade. With abundant provisions for feedback, comments and continuing evolution we expect this website to become largely self-orgainizing and self-sustaining.
We were squatting in Jodi’s turnip patch one sunny afternoon last fall, three of us, tugging up the last of the season’s turnips and chatting in that comfortable way that seems to happen when your hands are in the dirt. I’d come there to trade with Jodi: I was giving her a couple of “We Will Not be Silent” t-shirts (thecriticalvoice.org) in exchange for some turnips. Rick King, website creator and digital artist, happened to be there too, giving Jodi instruction in using an Apple computer.
